Policy Type Setup

Updated this week

Policy Type Setup

The “Policy Type Setup” section is where you’ll be able to add, turn off, and generally manage the Policy Types and Policy Categories you have available in AgencyZoom. To access Policy Type Setup, a user with manager permissions can click MyAgency (the gear in the bottom left of AgencyZoom for Admin users), then Policy Type Setup.

Once in Policy Type Setup, you’ll notice that the page is split into multiple sections- each section having its own list of Policy Types. These sections are the Policy Categories. You can use them to organize your Policy Types into different sub-groups, such as Auto policy types, Property policy types, etc. To add an additional Policy Category, you’d click the “+ Policy Category” button in the top right. Then enter the name of the new Category, and Save. After that you can edit that Policy Category at any time by clicking the pencil and paper icon in the top right of the category, or delete it by pressing the trash can key.

Adding a Policy Type

To add a Policy Type, you’ll click the blue “+Policy Type” button in the top right of the page, or under each individual Policy Category (these options are not available in AMS360 integrated accounts, this is discussed in more detail later in this article). Clicking either of those options will open a prompt asking the name of the Policy Type, the Line (Personal, Commercial, Life & Health), and whether or not it should include a Property Address option.

If you check the box for Property, when selling a policy with that Policy Type, it will give the option to add a separate “Location of Property” to the policy, separate from the customer’s mailing address. Without that box being checked, you’re not able to add that separate address.

Then click Save, and the Policy Type will be added.

Moving and Turning Off Policy Types

If you need to move a Policy Type from one Policy Category to another, just click and hold the mouse while selecting that policy type, and you can drag and drop it into another Policy Category.

The blue switch on the right side of each policy type also allows you to turn off a policy type. When this is done- any existing policies with that type will still show as having that type. But it will no longer be an option for agents to select in the Policy Type dropdown when selling a policy.

Why Can’t I Edit/Delete Some Policy Types?

You may notice that some Policy Types on your list have a Pencil and Paper icon to edit the Policy Type, as well as a Trash can icon to delete it- while others don’t. The ones with those icons are custom Policy Types your Agency added, and therefore they can be edited or deleted. The ones without those icons are default Policy Types, which cannot be edited or deleted.

Why Can’t AMS360 Integrated Accounts Add Policy Types & Categories?

If your agency is integrated in AMS360, there will be no option to add, edit, delete, or move Policy Types. The only option is to view them, and turn them off or on. This is because for AMS360 integrated accounts, all policy types sync over directly from AMS360. So if you’d like to add, edit, or delete policy types this would have to be done on 360’s end, then those changes would sync over to AgnecyZoom.
